Taman Ujung or Taman Sukasada, is a park located in
banjar Ujung, Tumbu village, Karangasem district, Bali. The park is located
about 5 km south east of the city of Amlapura. In the Indies era this place was
known as Waterpaleis or "water palace".
Taman Ujung Karangasem was built by the king of
Karangasem I Gusti Bagus Jelantik, who holds Anak Agung Agung Anglurah Ketut
Karangasem. Initially the extent of nearly 400 hectares, but now only about 10
hectares. Because some of the land has been distributed to the community during
land reform. This park is privately owned from the Puri Karangasem family. But
public visitors are also allowed to visit it.
Taman Ujung was built in 1909 on the initiative of
Anak Agung Anglurah. The construction of this park was architecturally by a
Dutchman named van Den Hentz and a Chinese named Loto Ang. This development
also involves an undagi (Balinese architects). Ujung Park is actually a
development of Dirah pond which was built in 1901. The construction of Taman
Ujung was completed in 1921 and in 1937, Taman Ujung Karangasem was inaugurated
with a marble inscription, inscribed with script in Latin and Balinese script
and two languages, Malay and Balinese.
In the area of Taman Ujung Karangasem there are several
buildings and a large and spacious pool. There are three gates to get to the
park area, but the tourists can only enter through the gate that is next to the
parking area. the main gate is located on the altitude on the west side as an
entrance called the Bale Kapal. because, formerly this building was made to
resemble a ship.
From this place we can see the entire area of Taman
Ujung, or rather we like to see a miniature Taman Soekasada Ujung Karangasem.
And from here also, we can see the beauty of the open sea and mountains.
This park has 2 pools of the
same magnitude, and called Dirah pond. In the south is the first pool that was
built in Taman Ujung karangasem In the middle of the first pool there is Balai Gili (Kambang) which has
several rooms, that room used by kings and there is also room for children. To
go to Balai Gili (Gili Hall) is connected with two bridges on the north and
south side of Balai. While in the middle of the second pool there is also a
Balai which is connected by a bridge that leads to the west, from the west side
of Balai Gili there is Balai Bundar and on the northwest side of Balai Bundar
there is Balai Tunjuk.
Usually this park is crowded by local tourists
during the holidays. And also many foreign tourists who visit this place.
